Volunteers: The Heart of Hospice

The greatest gift you can offer is your time, your caring nature, and your willingness to give of yourself. Training and ongoing support are provided to all volunteers, so experience is not required. Volunteering is a great opportunity to learn new skills and enhance existing ones. The rewards are many for those who volunteer their time and talent.

Volunteers play a crucial role in Hospice organizations. The average hospice has at least as many, if not more, volunteers than paid staff. A federal mandate states that volunteers must provide a minimum of 5% of total patient care hours. Volunteers allow us to provide services we might not otherwise be able to offer. At Hospice By The Sea we depend on our volunteer staff to sit with patients and to help with office activities and community outreach. The opportunities for volunteers to make a difference are as varied and individual as the volunteers themselves.
