The intense training for patient-care volunteers includes the following topics: philosophy of hospice, communication and interpersonal skills, patient care, emotional support of patients and families, the grief process, patient and family rights, safety measures. Throughout the year, support groups and continuing education sessions are held on a regular basis for hospice volunteers. For a schedule of training programs, click here.

Volunteers must fill out an application and have a background check done prior to volunteer orientation. An annual TB test is required, at no charge, for all paid staff and volunteers who are in contact with patients. Exceptions from this test are dealt with on an individual basis and some volunteer positions are excluded from this requirement.

Volunteer applications are available online or you may call the Hospice By The Sea Volunteer Department at 561-416-5040 for more information.
